In 2009, iron inclusions in coal exported through the port of Riga / Latvia was causing major damages on conveyor belt systems in the UK (> GBP 250.000). DutchInspect BV was sent to investigate the source of these iron inclusions. The source appeared to be sweepings from emptied rail road cars; sweepings that did not pass the magnetic separation all other coal was subjected to. By eliminating this source of iron inclusions, no more damage for this reason was recorded.
